AFTER SCHOOL CHESS CLUBS ('25-'26)

from $147.00

Rose City Chess after-school clubs are open to students of all abilities, whether they are learning the rules for the first time or striving to win state championships. Our coaches are highly experienced at working with neurodiverse and academically gifted children. Our students have been part of multiple state championship teams, including OSCF Team State Championships in 2019, 2021, and 2022. In 2025, Rose City Chess students captured six first place prizes at the OSCF Individual Championships, up from three in 2024!

We provide structured lessons for children at all ability levels. Students are assessed at the beginning of each term and given a workbook suitable for their current strength. We have developed a comprehensive beginner program, with a different workbook for each term of the school year. While we develop more advanced workbooks, we use the highly reputable Dutch Chess Steps workbooks to differentiate and structure training for students, no matter their level.

Cost: $22/session. Price differences between schools and seasons are due to the number of times each school meets during that season.

Snacks: Students may bring their own snacks and consume them during the first fifteen minutes of the lesson. Snacks are not provided.

Scholarships: Rose City Chess matches PTA contributions for club scholarships. For clubs with 16+ students, Rose City Chess also offers reduced tuition for up to two volunteers who can commit to helping for the entire term. Email robert@rosecitychess.com in inquire about the availability of either scholarship.

Format: Each lesson contains 60 minutes of instructor-facilitated lessons and games:

1. Achievements: Celebrating development milestones for each player

2. Game Analysis: Highlighting teachable moments in selected games

3. Tactics and Strategy: Structured, sequential lessons on key skills and ideas

4. Open Play: Students play each other and the coach

Included in Fees
